I’ve lost my sanity. Some people may question our sanity just for taking on a fixer-upper project like this. Perhaps. But we are definitely crazy to live in it while the work goes on.

When we moved in, I knew it was going to be a while before the house was finished and we could empty our boxes, so I created a “sane” room. This is the room where there would be no boxes, tools, or dirt. It was a hodgepodge of mismatched furniture, but I had a rug, a coffee table, a comfy chair and a TV. Notice my use of the past tense.

Unfortunately, when we were repairing the living room, I had to fill my “sane room” with boxes and furniture.  This is what my sane room looked like then.

But I still had a comfy chair and TV. Yes, I used the past tense again. My sane room is gone because it is time for its ceiling to be repaired.

In fact, I don’t have a sane space in the entire house. Let me walk you through my house this morning.

Shocking, isn’t it? There is even a more dust than usual because David decided to start repairing the ceilings upstairs too. Now some of you may be speechless, but some of you may be asking these questions:

  1. Can’t you just close your cupboard doors? Yes, and I do. I even clean off the counter but it doesn’t last. Soon, it is covered in paint brushes and tools.
  2. Seriously, how about putting some clothes away? Where? I won’t have a place for clothing until I get a closet or a new dresser.
  3. Couldn’t your boxes be stacked a little neater? Yes, they were once in neat piles. But I keep looking for something I haven’t seen in the last four months. In fact, I really need to break out my fall clothing and shoes. You can only wear sandals and shorts for so long.

Just being real. Fixing up an old house and living in it at the same time is definitely a little crazy.
