Our final major project has begun! I first wrote about it in The Porch: A Shocking Revelation! Those of you who live in town can see the changes for yourself, but my readers in other locations need an update.

The “face” of our house hasn’t kept up with its interior. While we have renovated the living areas and even the backyard, the front of the home hasn’t changed much in the past two years. During this time, we have gotten permits from the Cranbury Historical Preservation Commission, the Planning and Zoning Board of Adjustment, and the Construction Office.

Finally, last week, we began the “Great Porch Project.” In one week, the existing wooden structures of the porch have been completely removed except for the original porch roof on the south side of the house. This is propped up so that we can keep it.

One of the questions that we have gotten most from those who walk by our house is “What is that brick wall?” Most guesses have been a carriage entrance or a car port. Of course, those of you who have followed along know that it is the remains of the wrap-around porch. It has given us the best understanding of how the porch was constructed. Unfortunately, because it was so rotten, it needed to come down.

Stay tuned for the next installment of the porch project!
