This phase of the porch construction has come to a close and the next phase will begin shortly. The masons’ final touch was placing the limestone caps on top of the brick wall.

Most of the original limestone caps were saved. They were in the backyard for many years waiting to be returned to their purpose. We didn’t realize that so many of them were under this old brick pile behind the garage. When we landscaped the backyard, we moved them to a new location to wait for the porch to be built.

We added a few new stones to fill in where the old ones were missing. We still had the original curved limestone caps. Our masons built the brick wall to fit the caps perfectly. Below, you can see the combination of new and old caps.

The large corner caps are very heavy and took several men and a Bobcat to put them in place. I captured the sequence in these photos.

Somehow capping off the new brick with the old limestone caps makes the entire structure look like it has been here for years.
